Dispersing agents for minerals suspensions: RHEOSPERSEā„¢

For over 30 years, most of the minerals were sold in their powder form. New regulations, competitive practices and products increasingly technical have pushed manufacturers to an improvement of storing and handling the minerals. This evolution of the market demand has led to the deployment of slurries technologies.

Coatex historical business, its development and specialized chemistry result from the managing of minerals suspensions into water. The increasing number of industries dependant upon these slurries does not allow for an exhaustive list, we can mention as examples: natural calcium carbonate, precipitated calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, talc, iron oxides, clays, zeolites, barium carbonates, zinc oxide, aluminium trihydroxide,...

If dispersing minerals into water seems obvious, the reality is very different. Every mineral will react differently depending on its solubility in water and affinity with polymeric dispersants. Some polymers may be used for different minerals, but if one wants a perfect result, most of them will require a specific polymer customized for it. Coatex expertise operates from this step to the stabilization of the resulting slurry.

However, when the dispersion is finished, the slurry still needs stabilization to be stored and shipped without settling. Coatex has specifically designed anti-settling agents whose properties will prevent the mineral from settling without a substantial viscosity increase.

Furthermore, Coatex has developed dispersing and anti-settling agents specifically adapted to these slurries industrial applications such as paper, paints & coatings, plastics,...
